A poem for Knitting holidays in France by Jane Golding

This is brilliant ode to Knitting holidays in France by my lovely friend Jane, who came along as a day girl to Carol's workshop last week.

Bercloux  October 2017

Sue set the date
and seven replied
and so they assembled in France
To challenge their skills
Carole chose "texture"
and they thought they'd give it a chance.

First to the samples
and all the new stitches
They ploughed their way through the notes.
They bobbled and bricked
and cabled and ridged
Until they had them off by rote.

Bewildered and confused
with the cable square notes
Carole had to rewrite them (twice).
Then they started again
after a gin or some wine
and a dinner of tagine and rice.

Losing Jan to her Bling
whilst off to the shops
provided a few hours of distraction.
With vigour renewed
they sat in the sun
next doors dog and cockerel providing the action!

By the end of the week
with their stitching completed
Our band were truly in heaven. Cajoled by Carole
and cared for by Sue
Here's to the Magnificent Seven!!

And there in shadows
providing support
is Culli going out and coming in.
He does croissants and bread
and errands and stuff
but above all he serves the gin!

It's a toast to Sue
for the warmth of her welcome
these ladies are well-fed and content.
And one for Carole
for her patient tuition,
They leave on new projects Hell-Bent!
