We had an overnight stop yesterday with our friends Mike and Linda in the Marais Poitevin. They have a lovely little house and gite to rent in the heart of the Venise Verte (Green Venice) an area of marshland criss crossed with little canals. Arcais is a pretty little village with higgledy piggledy houses on a hill above the marshland. Most houses in the village have their own boat and there is nothing nicer than messing about on a river.

After taking BeBop for a walk we had a little paddle in the boat, I love this place. You can drift along for miles in blissful silence, surrounded by luminous shades of green. The bright spring green canopy of leaves form a lacy pattern overhead, with dappled sunlight and shimmering reflections it is a truly magical place.

A great day out, followed by a delicious Thai meal cooked by Mike what more could you ask for!
